In the article in the New York Times, Moderation and the Modern Mom, the author uses vivid humor, and amuzing anecdotes to connect with her readers. She talks about how becoming a parent forces you to become responsible, a subject that to many would not seem to make a quality OP-ED. However, she takes the position with such originality and really spices up her article. It was fun to read, as well as insightful. Her use of language clearly captivated her readers, as well as conveyed her message across fully. I thought the article, even though it wasn't controversial or political, was charming in a way, and I'm glad I read it. These days much of the news and media is depressing or violent. This article was witty and simple, which was a nice break from the madness.

I thought the op-ed was quite entertaining also. The conversational tone made it easy just to sit down and read and the entertaining anecdotes coloured the piece nicely. I liked how there was clear message but it wasn't preached to the audience. The message was simply stated and backed up casually, not thrown in and repeated as an "in your face" statement. The alliteration in the title served to draw the reader in, highlighting the wit employed in the piece and quite simply, drawing interest and notice.
And I have to agree, it made a nice change to read an op-ed that wasn't focused on the economy failing, war or some other depressing topic.
Thanks for responding to this op-ed; I liked reading it. I also agree that not all news has to be heavy, and it was nice to read something lighter. It was a very human-interest op-ed, and there was something about the easy, conversational flow of the piece that made you want to just keep reading. Even though the subject had nothing to do with me, I enjoyed it, and in a piece like this, that shows that the writer did a good job.
